Jvc camcorder request for information?

i have a jvc gr-d73u camcorder. for a while i be trying to get video from my camcorder to my computer with a usb cord but consequently i found out that i needed dv cord (firewire) so i got one and i get a video onto my computer once
but when i plug it into my computer it opens up window movie maker and i click on takeover from video device and then click on the recommended resort and choose to manually capture it and consequently i get to the capture screen and the little preview glass is empty and i try to takeover some video and i click finish and then it say something like it wasnt configured properly but i get it to work once doing nothing differently
what do i enjoy to do?
