What mpeg-2 (DVD format) invasion card will hand over me the best element capture from VHS for $200 or smaller amount?

I would like to return with a capture card that will not convert the video to an intermediary codec (i.e. DV) previously it is converted to mpeg-2. I've tried Sony Gigapocket on a VAIO but noticed adequate difference between that and the original VHS to not use it for transferring my kinfolk archive. I don't want to use a DVD recorder at this point because I have so much video I want to store it on a rugged drive array and be able to access it on-demand. A appropriation card that can encode VBR mpeg-2 or else takeover "losslessly" to mpeg software VBR encoding would be preferred.

Answers:    VHS is lousy image part to begin next to so no matter what you do you will appendage up with something slightly worse than the resourceful, especially because you can't get impossible to tell apart color separation from Composite or S-Video the way you can near newer formats that support playing out over component. Your best bet is to use something like the Dazzle hardware/Pinnacle Software combination and hope for the best.

Here's a video tutorial of hooking up a camcorder to the Dazzle:

The process for connecting a VCR is like peas in a pod.
