Is the Sony DCR-SR42 a honourable buy?

I'm new to the undamaged camcorder thing. I'm of late wanting something to shoot home videos, relations gatherings, music programs and such. Has anyone used this camcorder one-sidedly? I'm not really wanting to spend anything over $500. Any advice would be assiduous. Thanks!

Answers:    Well...Sony Camcorder's are always the best for picture and nouns clarity...But if you are specific about a specific model to buy like Sony DCR-SR42....The factor might vary depends upon your desires....SR42 is the 2nd Sony Camcorder with the Hard Drive piece....But it DOES NOT have sure features like "Flash for taking Pictures contained by Dark Environment, 3CCD Lens for perfect picture next to High Contrast/Brightness, Remote Control for remote operation using tripod and moreover the battery provided by Sony for the camcorder end only 60-80min[max].".... If you are really looking for a suitable camcorder for shooting events and occasions...You should look for camcorder near some of the basic features as mentioned above to appropriate a proper picture/video....To my personal point of view...Sony DCR-SR100 model and above get some good features as i mentioned[Hard Drive Camcorder]...if not Sony DVD405 model or above got suitable feature too[DVD Camcorders]....as per the cost ....< $500....it should be available surrounded by the market.

I am sure that clears little bit of your cross-examine...Any further question...Mail to me...I am jubilant to help...

It depends...

The video ability is not that great and you need to verbs the video somewhere (your computer) before you run out of thorny drive space...

A miniDV tape base camcorder is easier to deal next to (when you run out of space on the tape, hold it out put in another tape). But this process you need a firewire port on your computer...

The Canon ZR800 is surrounded by your price range. So is the Sony DCR-HC96. Please do not verbs analog video (the old VHS and Hi8 days) beside miniDV ("Digital Video"). MiniDV tape store the video beside a lot smaller quantity compression that a consumer camcorder with an internal firm drive or flash memory. DVD camcorders should just disappear from the surface of the Earth.

Need a bit more information until that time an appropriate response can be provided to you. Perhaps the Camcorders forum at cnet.com would be another helpful place for you.
