Answers:    I would say the Canon XL2 in fact....that or the Sony PD-170 etc. If you're going to spend the type of money on an XL2 then check out the JVC ProHD cameras as they are HD as economically as DV and not much more than the XL2. However they do come into their own when shooting in HD (720p).
If that's still out of budget consequently the Canon XM2 (in US GL2) is well worth a look at too. If you're going to kind movies with adjectives the time and expense consumed then travel for a half clad camera and not a consumer one.
