Can I put footage from a VHS video onto my Macbook?

Is it possible for me to transfer footage from a VHS (its an older home video tape) into Imovie on my macbook? and how would I do this? Its very essential that I know, thanks...

PS Even if I can't procure it directly onto the computer, could I record it onto my video camera that have a mini DV tape and afterwards transfer it form near?

Answers:    Here's what Apple Support says more or less importing VHS video:

Your idea of demo the video to your miniDV tape will work if your camcorder can adopt AV input signals.
To get pious quality conversion you entail good hardware. If you a short time ago have a video or two, best to give to a professional. I can convert for you.

If you want to walk direct, you need to convert it to DV. A converter such as the ADS Pyro A/V Link will work.

If your MiniDV camcorder (what make/model is it?) supports video INPUT, next you can definitely text to MiniDV and connect the camcorder to your MacBook via FireWire cable. MiniDV camcorders and MacBooks will have ports for that.

Any other question?
You can use a newer Sony or Canon MiniDV camcorder that supports analog to digital pasthrough conversion, VCR > Camcorder > Mac.
You can use a MiniDV digital camcorder that has analog inputs to story the VHS to aMiniDV tape afterwards afterwards transfer it to your Mac, VCR > Camcorder afterwards Camcorder > Mac.
Last but not least, you can use a Media Converter similar to CanopusADVC-55 or Directors Cut Take 2 box among others to digitize the tapes, VCR > Converter > Mac. With this approach you can't control these devices near iMovie.
You need an analog converter. I enjoy the dazzle, actually I hold a vcr, hooked to the dazzle, hooked to the computer and using the software that came near the dazzle I am able to download my video to my laptop. I'm not sure if this will work with mac.
