Answers: what I use is FLASKMpeg which is free software you can download by typing surrounded by the name of the software into google. One you've installed it, read the back files to learn how to use it, next you can open directly from your dvd by initial the video folder and the file VTS_01_1.VOB. Then you can ouput your video as a compressed .avi record which all video editing software can read and cut.
Have you finalised the DVDs in your camcorder (check your manual) unless you do that afterwards your DVDs will not be recognised by anything except the camcorder that recorded them.
Once you own done that then this should work
Inside VideoStudio you select "Insert DVD" and point the programme at the DVD and follow the prompts and the video is copied from the disc into the timeline of VideoStudio so that you can repress it - add lots of different video together - add titles/music/narration - brand name a file that you can e-mail or upload to 'Youtube' etc. and finally burn to a full size DVD to play within a standard player.
