How can I upload video from my camcorder Canon 630i into my computer?

I have this Canon 630i camcorder for over 2 years, and when I bought it I thought I will be capable of store and edit video into computer.
Although the software come with it, I never know it, as i believed the software was newly for the still images made next to camcorder, so I gave up.
But I presently I have a fancy since the camcorder is DV and it's digital, it should be possible to connect and save the video into PC.
I own a USB cable to connect, but is that enough.
Can anyone consent to me know, please?

Thanks in credit to everyone.

Answers:    Video Editing Process*

*CAPTURE the video stream from vcam or Import from pc folder, EDIT to spawn the movie as a project, FINISH (render) movie as a video file, and finally SAVE or burn to CD/DVD.

for starters, XP/Windows Movie Maker** (wmm) would provide the simple & straightforward way (& free) to swot up the technique, where SpiceFx by Pixelan could provide enhanced effects. **click detailed WMMaker minister to.
After learning the editing tricks, you may subsequently venture into other video editing programs - Premiere, Vegas, Pinnacle, Ulead, etc., accdg to skill horizontal.

Steps:
CAPTURE VIDEO
a.) Connect vcam to computer via firewire cable (4 or 6 pin @ 25 mbps) for good verbs (USB@ 4mbps can do but possible drop frames),
b.) Set the vcam mode to play recorded video on cartridge & pause
c.) Open wmm contained by computer and set to TASK PANE
d.) In the wmm/Task pane/CAPTURE VIDEO, click CAPTURE from video device. Wmm should now be capable of control vcam operations. The video files from vcam can next be copied to wmm collection (usually there are several video files from vcam although you will not catch sight of on vcam playback)
e.) Import other desired video files, pictures, music, narration from pc folder to wmm collection
EDIT MOVIE
f.) wmm/ EDIT: drag & drop capture video files one by one from collection to TIMELINE chart below at the desired sequence
g.) Enhance/edit your video further if you wish: make a payment other video files, pictures, background music/ narration, subtitles, effects, transition, etc., after, test to your love (re-edit as you wish)
FINISH MOVIE (w/rendering)
h.) Save the video file to laptop or burn to cd
i.) Save the project file (work-in-progress) for succeeding edit

Hope this helps…
I have a JVC dv camcorder and discovered that the front that plugs into the round pc socket on the camera is just good for stills. assuming you hold the correct video software installed, you need a 1394 firewire near a small 4 or 6 pin socket that fits into the i socket on your camera.
Recommend Dazzle dv editor available from:

www.maplin.co.uk

This contains a video card, to slot into a spare slot in the vertebrae of your pc and the firewire to correlation your camcorder.

you can then verbs video to the pc, gag, add manual and burn to DVD.

Hope this helps.
I would best answer this query via an article on TechLore I'm sure will help you...

The 'USB' cable you speak of is a firewire, not a usb.
If you havent already installed the software, do that. If you own and it still doesnt work, go to the canon website and look for a driver which is for your camcorder.
To upload and cut, windows comes next to windows movie author. Use that if you just want to upload or do simple editing.
If not, i would recommend I-life, but you own a PC not a mac, so try pinnacle.
