Digital video camera to Mac?

We have a JVC Digital Video Camera. Model GR-D750U (if it matters)
I've search all through the online instruction manual and the JVC website. Nothing was courteous. (as far as how to upload a video)
Yes, I have a firewire cable, I know how to hook it up etc.
How do I find my Mac to recognize the video camera? Do I involve 3rd party software?
If so where on earth can I find it and will it work with a Mac?

Answers:    I mull over they all work beside mac. Mac has adjectives the video softwares like iMovie HD and Final Cut 2. I never saw a camera or camcorder that didnt work beside mac.
You are running iMovie when trying to upload.

iMovie is what is suppose to do the uploading.
