How do I preserve video standard when I download from my camcorder to my computer?

The quality be much better when I watched it through the viewfinder LDC of the camcorder afterwards I downloaded and saved it using Windows Movie Maker and when I keep watch on the video in Windows Media Player it's adjectives grainy. yuk.


Answers:    all right if the camera uses an digital output (using a IEEE 1694 firewire cord-- mini dv, hard drive, or small dvds) than the feature should be exactly the same unless you used USB. but if your camera is Analog ( 8mm, hi-8, etc.) than it doesnt become a digital code until save on computer, in that skin you must try to save within best format possible without any other applications running on computer.
Maybe you takeover video using USB and save as .Mpeg files. Try use firewire cable and recover it as .AVI files surely you can get same ability of original video from video.
