Transfering video's from your camcorder to computer?

I used to be able to purely plug the USB cable into my camcorder and then this point popped up and let me keep under surveillance my video's. But that thing doesn't pop up anymore. I tried reinstalling the program and everything but I stil can't grasp my video's uploaded.
I have Windows Media Player, is in attendance anyway to get to the video's from near?
