Firstly recover the drivers to a disc. Go into "device manager" uninstall the drivers , reboot the pc. connect the camcorder the notebook should search for a driver and ask for it to be installed, (it take a while so be patient). then install the drivers from the disc or consent to the PC search for it on the disc. you havent said what TYPE of Sony Handycam - some of them cannot be transferred via USB - you may need to use 'Firewire' or even lately physically insert the recording medium into your computer.
