I am getting my husband a digital camcorder for Christmas, but I don't know what is the best charitable. plze give a hand.
Answers: The question is certainly... what do I want to do with it... Suggest you consider:
1. if he will want a camera which does everything or provides control of the features and settings. If you want to control adjectives the features and end up near a camera which does everything for you... that is not a great game.
2. consider what subjects you are going to be filming... some camcorders do great at the coast lighting... others don't -- some do great at Anut Tilly's dinner table [low light] others dont.
3. consider if you want DV tape, easier said than done drive, DVD, etc... I strongly suggest using a DV tape... the other two are some what limiting within terms of storage time on a knotty drive [what happens on the week long break and you fill up the rock-hard drive mid way through?] -- Also, at the run out, you have a storage cassette of your work... in recent times put it away and get a topical tape... no fuss no muss... unlike the frozen drive.
4. Consider what you can connect to on your computer... if you have firewire nouns [if you don't, I highly recommed you do bring back one] -- or if you have a USB2 or USB1 nouns.
5. Consider what type of computer you have... some solely connect to Windows box... so if you have merely Linux, Mac, etc... consider this aspect.
6. Consider what quality you want... if you want to income extra for the 3CCD or if you want HD features in the video you shoot. [If streaming on the Internet... HD is lost... but 3 CCD comes surrounded by handy] -- if you only keep under surveillance on an old TV HD / 3 CCD is lost...
7. Consider your experience... if you are a short time ago starting out and want to learn what you are doing... procure a cheaper camera until you have a sense of what you are doing and later ebay it and get a better camera.
Good luck.
dance to best buy and look and read and ask, then buy the one surrounded by the middle....go sony or cannon.
