I got the camera from a friend and I required to know if it was possible to simply connect it to the computer and agree to it charge. If not I will have to shift out and buy one.

I don't know about this hard to please piece of equipment, but a lot of devices that you connect to a computer next to a USB cable (cameras, PDAs, etc.) will charge while connected a computer, but it's much slower than charging with the cord that plugs into the wall.
