Cheap cameras?
Answers:
Hold off until you start your course. The college may have resources for you to use, or a preferred system.
If you want a pro camera steer clear of the high street, they only sell consumer models with the most mark-up highest volume of sales, i.e. not usually pro models.
You probably want an SLR with manual controls, or at least manual overrides.
It is then complicated by whether you want to use film (check with the college they may not have a darkroom anymore) or digital.
If you buy used you can get a decent camera for less money.
You should be able to pick up high-end film models for not very much money.
For pro use you really want a camera that has a PC synch socket (this is for studio flash, not computers) something like a used Nikon F90 or Canon EOS5 would be your cheapest way into buying such a film body.
Cameras like Nikon F100's or Even Nikon F4 are more professional, though pretty big and heavy, best to handle one first. A bit more money too.
An EOS 3 is a good bet, has pretty much most of the really useful stuff from the very top cameras, a good bit cheaper and more advanced AF and TTL flash than an EOS 5. But again, a bit more money.
If you want to buy a new DSLR then forget the entry level models. They are good enough cameras but they are not pro.
You should be looking at a Nikon D200 or Canon Eos 30D (soon to be replaced with the 40D) if you want something a bit more pro.
Whatever system you buy into make sure that the lenses are compatible with DSLR bodies.
Avoid Minolta SR/MC/MD
Avoid Pentax Screwmount
Avoid Canon FD
Pentax K is alright
Canon EOS is fine
Nikon F-mount is fine with limitations
Minolta Dynax/Maxxum/AF is fine with Sony bodies.
The most widely used systems are Canon EOS and Nikon.
Buying into either gives you loads of choice now and in the future.
If buying new go to www.calumetphoto.co.uk
Cheap prices and they have real shops with real people who will let you handle the gear first and be able to answer technical questions.
try www.comet.co.uk you can compare them online
http://www.pixmania.co.uk
Excellent website - prices at least 30% cheaper than high street.
For good snaps, i use a minolta 303 with MD fitting telefoto from 28 to 400mm. Get a leica if possible. It all depends on your course - ie: conventional or digital. Talk to your tutor. I use photoworld mag for my purchases.
I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras and learn as much as they can from the internet.
Go to the store and hold them and try them to see what they feel like and how they take pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck
my suggestion
go to yahoo shopping

digital camera GUIDE

the guide should answer your questions
The above answers are all good. I'll add one more if you are an experienced ebay buyer. I bought my gear on ebay and have had no problems with it. Lots of people are trying to sell their old gear to upgrade to the latest and greatest. The old gear was last years latest and greatest and it's just as good today as then. You just have to study and look at seller ratings and such but you may be able to get a lot more camera gear for half the money.
my dad bought me an aiptek its a digital camera and a camcorder it is amazing
you can order them at walgreens.com i think
You should get the PENTAX Optio W30. It has TONS of features, VERY good picture quality, its sleek & stylish. And to add to all that, its waterproof! You can see the camera here: http://www.pentaximaging.com/products/pr...
I have had the PENTAX Optio W10 (a slighty older version) for a few years now and I absolutely LOVE it!
