Best Camera for a Beginner Filmmaker?

whats a good advanced camera i could bring for starting out filmmaking? I dont want it to expensive, but would like xlr audio inputs atleast.

Answers:    A apt used Canon XL would be a good start. Years ago I made "How To" DVD's using one and it have two audio inputs as well as an on camera stereo mic. This is a video camera, so not a motion picture making camera in the strictest sense.

It is a mini-DV, so it is "broadcast" trait.

You may want to rent the equipment ... http://www.birnsandsawyer.com/cgibin/BIR...

Give them a call and they will assist you find the camera that will suit your individual needs base upon the subject of your film.

If you are going to shoot contained by 16mm, then Birns and Sawyer is still a pious place to look
I think you're looking for a camcorder...if you're purchasing I'd expect in today's world you should turn HD...I have no opinion of your budget. Sony or Canon either one engineer good prosumer cameras near XLR inputs - but you might want to save some green and bring back a Beachtek or similar adapter, the sound level is just as upright, you have more option, and then you could pick up a Sony FX1 or FX7 and put aside about $800.

If this is out of your length then yes, you could move about with one of Canon's elder XL models.
DEFINITELY a Canon.
while some say Sony,
i'm still commencing to see the light into it.
though, Canon have been a trusted brand for who know how long.
