How reliable beside NIKON VR lenses be surrounded by the long permanent status compared to standard zoom or prime lenses?

VR lenses probably are more complex with shifting internal lenses and components, but I suppose the jury is still out on this issue as the VR series have only be available for about 8 or so years I would guess? How long is an LCD info panel going to concluding as well over the years, I don`t know only time will narrate. My dad still uses a 60 yr old Contiflex camera: still works fine.
