Any digital camera suggestions for a girl on a budget?

Okay, so I have no ease of digital cameras, but I am taking pictures that will be printed surrounded by a reputable newspaper, and I inevitability a camera.
The rep said that the pictures must be of a higher resolution, and specified a DPI (I reason it was going on for 160, but I'm not positive). I need a camera that can join these guidelines but isn't like $500. Is this possible? Anyone own any suggestions?

Answers:    You should be able to use any 6+ megapixel camera and catch a high plenty resolution image.

For instance, my Nikon D70 is a 6 MP camera that produces imagery at 3008x2000 pixels. This will easily print a 10"x6.6" picture at 300 DPI.

You generally want your emblem to be a little better resolution than what the printer can produce, say 150%. Most word papers are printed around 160 DPI, so for best quality you would want an imitation around 240 DPI. At this resolution, you can print that 6 MP image at 12.5"x8.3".

So, unless you plan on getting full page prints of your descriptions, 6 MP would be more than enough for most tabloid work.

When taking photos, you want to make sure that you spread the frame with your subject. Say you pilfer a photo of someone, and they only clutch up half the nouns of the photo, you would have to crop the photograph. That would immediately cut your DPI within half or you can just print your image partially the size it could have be.

To do your own calculations for DPI, purely divide the horizontal and vertical image resolution by any the size in inches, or the required DPI.

Example:
3008X2000 photograph = length to width ratio = 1.5 to 1

To find max representation size at a given DPI:
2000 pixels / 100 DPI = 20 inches
3008 pixels / 100 DPI = 30 inches

To find max DPI given an image size:

2000 pixels / 5 inches tall= 400 DPI

Ok, so what camera? How close are you going to know how to get? Will you be capable of control the images, or will you obligation a big zoom lens?

If you will be able to own some control over the images, and not necessitate a zoom, get the Nikon D40, from here: http://www.adorama.com/INKD40KR.html. It's $400, will be more than adequate resolution, and will allow you to grow into it. You can buy better/more lenses as you go, and be capable of get that nice zoom that you may entail down the road.

If you need the zoom right very soon, look for a 6MP camera with the biggest optical zoom you can find. Something resembling the Casio EX-V8 has a 7x optical, 8.1 MP resolution. You won't know how to get much better than that.
You do hold a small budget, you have to use camera that have a high format to retrieve the photo. TIFF FAX. these cameras are not cheap.
