The led turns on to indicate that it is charging as soon as i plug surrounded by the charger, but 10 seconds following it turns off. Does this connote it has quit working. (the mobile has no power )
I thieve about 5 hrs to charge. but from the users booklet I undertood that the led within the charger should stay on all the time while it is charging and turn past its sell-by date once the battery is fully charged.

Answers: if you think it's defective and the battery-operated doesn't charge, I would return it. The light is primarily a convenience frothy so you know when the battery is charged.
