i could be wrong, but the potential problems could be that family who buy the SDHC cards do not have SDHC compatible cameras, hence the problem. But I know for sure the Fz8 can use SDHC cards.
If you know for sure near are other problems, SD cards work just as great and are cheaper.

Buy a branded card such as Sandisk Ultra 2 or 3, these are vigorous and very reliable. i use these for everything very soon, ther are a little more expensive after the normal cards but they are worth it, near high verbs speed and compatable with nealry adjectives cameras.
shop around to get effectiveness for money, avoid ebay as a good few are counterfiet, sold a 4gb but individual 128mb but some programs see them as 4gb, but when used you only seize 128mb data put a bet on!.
