Answers:    These are your memories, so you have to protect them within any way you can.

The first entity you should do is print out any images you want at once. Prints are the most immediate approach to view and hold your memories.

Next, I recommend copying the files to an external hard drive (USB external easier said than done drive) devoted exclusively to archiving your photos and other valuable digital files (like music files, documents). Such drives usually are around $100 to $150 when on Dutch auction and are actually priceless when it comes to positive your memories.

Then, burn your files onto two or more DVDs or CDs; keep 1 as a working copy and store the second one contained by a cool, dark place to prevent it from deteriorating. Don't skimp on the competence of the CD or DVD; cheap CDs or DVDs will truly break down and become corrupt over time due to chemical changes surrounded by the CD or DVD dye branch.

I don't recommend online services because 1) it takes a huge amount of time to upload and 2) you're at the mercy of the service to stay within business and hold onto your memories. Too many businesses own gone under and taken customers' photos beside them.

So, you'd have multiple layer of backup:
prints, an external hard drive (I in fact use two myself), and duplicate sets of DVD/CD's. This will ensure that if one set goes fruitless, you'll have a backup. And it should adjectives proof you against changes (imagine a world lacking DVDs or CDs...when was the end time you saw a floppy disk?)

Last thought: memory cards are approaching the point where it's almost cheap satisfactory to just store them on the memory card and of late buy a fresh one. I know wedding photographers who hold decided to merely add contained by the cost of a new card into their fees, and newly store the filled card similar to storing negatives, beside a backup on CD and not easy drive.
Burn them to DVD or CD... they will be not dangerous and portable !
