i won't step for it..i'd rather bring back a casio or sony
I personally consider BenQ as one of the second liner in the digicam pasture, along the likes of Vivitar. Its probably more specified in the optical drive medium area. But they do own quite seriously of other electronics aside from digicams - PDAs, phones, scanners and other computer peripherals.
Its a brand that is more popular within Europe and in Asia, hence the non-attendance on most US based digicam sites.
As far as price point is concerned, its a budget priced camera for the most chunk while it does have some models that own some "cutting edge" features, or some untried features that they are likely to be try out on other market.

So would I recommend it?
My answer would be a immensely conditional yes, if the following conditions are met:
- if its a brand available readily in your flea market (for exchange purposes)
- if it has a model that fits your wishes
- if it has a service center
- if you find a model within the BenQ lineup with a price / ceremonial rating that you cannot find in the first liner such as Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, and Sony.
I have have pretty good experience beside their other products such as the DVD ROM drives and a film scanner so if the price is right, I would consider buying this brand for my kids.
