This is designed to get better photos from a memory card; it's a free download. They claim a 100% success rate.
If your photos are not on the card, but stored contained by the camera's permanent memory, hook the camera up to the computer via your USB port, later try this software.
Wrap the camera manual, and confer it to Dad for Christmas.
You will have to use a report recovery program. Lexar make one that does work .. you will also need a card reader (under $10) because you don't want the camera's battery-operated to fail during the reclamation phase.

Until you can do that, buy a new card (1GB's on mart this weekend for $7) and keep on shooting. Do not be tempt to take any more shots on the old-fashioned card ... you will loose all of the metaphors you might recover, for sure.
