Answers: Unfortunately, if you're into photography you'll want to know the technical stuff.
Both cameras submit a standard zoom lens with the tools that covers the basic broad angle end. Take a look at what a 28mm lens would produce and see if it's what you're looking for. A angelic comparison of focal lengths can be found here:

Compare the enclosed space of view of the 50mm, which have long been considered the "normal" focal length, next to the 28mm picture which is where both camera tools lenses max out on the wide extension. Get comfortable with focal length, it's pretty important. If you want to progress even wider, you'll need to plop down some serious bread.
The E-510 is, in my view, better than the Nikon in the sense that it have more features for the price. Dell's price is about $10-$20 superior and they usually charge shipping and tax. There are also several online stores offering the E-510 with the standard zoom next to a pretty long telephoto (goes up to the 300mm mark on the comparison example related above) for ~$670. If you're going to invest so much on a dSLR, you should really learn the the essentials of operation and a mixture of camera parameters.
That's picture doesn't look approaching it was taken next to a wide angle lens, it in recent times got cropped so the photo is longer than it is taller. So yes, you can do that near either of the camera's you down, or any other camera out there as okay.
