What is memory stick adapter used for?

iam trying to buy memory card for my digicam, ut when i looked up on net, it also say you get an adapter. what is it??

Answers:    It allows you to transport your memory card out of your camera and plug it into a reader that will allow you to easily move pictures from the card to your firm drive without have to hook your camera up to your computer. Usually the transfer from a card reader is considerably faster than downloading from your camera... also save on your battery as this usually consumes a bit of power.
It is to collect and transport data and information!
