Canon PowerShot A720IS v A710?

I'm checking out these cameras to buy. Consumer Reports had the A710 notably rated but it's an 'older' model. What I'm wondering is why it's programmed in Amazon at 399 and the A720 around 199..... What features does the A710 hold that warrant the price increase.

And, any suggestions for point-and-shoot digital cameras other than these ones surrounded by the price range?

Answers:    The Amazon price is conspicuously wrong. You can buy the A710 IS plus a Selphy printer package for $199 at Circuit city.

Anyway, both cameras are primarily identical...the A720 IS is a short time ago the update to the A710 IS.
It features Canon's latest Digic III processor (A710 IS, Digic II) plus it have an extra megapixel...it would be the one to get.

These cameras ARE point and shoot, but also benefit from full instruction book controls, giving you more creative control if you wish.

For cost usefulness I would advise you to buy rechargeable NiMH battery (2500-2700mAh) plus a charger. You will get up to 400 shots per charge. It's a correct idea to buy a 4 mobile charger and 4 batteries. That course you always own a spare set. These batteries will drain when impracticable, so make sure you administer them a charge before you want to use the camera (especially if you haven't used it in some time).
Never use general alkaline batteries (that includes creamy duty, extra heavy duty etc).

You will also inevitability to buy an SD memory card. HIgh speed recommended (Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III...1-2GB).
Don't forget to format the card in the camera earlier first use...AND everytime AFTER you have undamagingly uploaded all metaphors to your computer. This deletes adjectives files from the card and will prevent card errors.

please read the user manuals, thoroughly.

well-mannered luck...
Ignore the Amazon price for the older A710. I've see Amazon with some complex prices on older, discontinued cameras, including some prices that be so high they be outrageous. I'm unsure of why this is.

You're right that the A720 IS, announced August 2007, replaces the A710 IS, announced September 2006.

If you aren't planning to shoot a lot of low street lamp photos, the A720 will do very all right for you. In low light the A720 is servicable, though not stellar. For most people's use, this is a great little camera.
I consider you have to ask your self if you want to foot the price for a good SLR camera, or you want OT progress with another camera. The lofty end cameras are suitable but it all depends on what your doing next to it.
