What type of camera should i buy?
Answers: Most cameras takes setting picture without any difficulties, except if you're also planning to pocket night shots on cities etc, next your choice will be limited to complex class cameras that can take slow shutter speed lacking creating noise contained by the actual picture.
In this case, I would recommend a Canon Powershot S5 IS - ~$380 and it's pretty upright for its price. It might looks a little big for most cameras but it have 12x optical zoom, it has SLR-like operation and it take pretty good picture.
I can't reccommend a specific model lacking research...Don't get too hung up on the megapixel entity.. Look for quality of construction.. How it fits within your hand, how effortless is it to program to get the pictures you want... I individually don't think small is better... i wouldn't buy anything but an slr but after im a semi professional photographer...
Many journalists and the media have dropped their Nikons for Canons... but it adjectives depends on the individual model... I have an olympus c2500 slr to be precise only 2,500 mgpixels and nearly 7 years old, originally cost 900 and can be bought used and within excellent condition on ebay for under 150. It feel like I own a camera in my paw not a pack of tobacco.

Consider the Canon PowerShot A640 and A630. Check Website dpreviews.com for reviews and prices of several cameras. My camera is only 6 megapixels and give me excellent 8X10 print and plenty of zoom at 12X optical zoom:Sony CyberShot DSC-H2
I have a Kodak and I am not too satisfied with it.
Go next to the Canon PowerShot A630, it has excellent picture feature and it's 8 megapixels.
