How can I convert my frail clan photos into a digital format?

I want to preserve some old line photos in a digital format, but I don't hold a scanner. I know some places allow me to print my digital photos, so would they allow me do the opposite? Any information is appreciated :)

Answers:    Two serious options:
1) get hold of a flatbed scanner. You can get a undeveloped scanner for about $45.00 plus 7.15 shipping: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

2) Take your digital camera and simply photograph your aged family photos. The element won't be as good as a scanner, but it's the quickest, easiest track to do it. If you want better quality, flimsy the photos carefully, preserve them flat, custom white balance, and use a tripod to keep hold of the camera parallel to the images.

A more expensive choice: find a service bureau locally that will scan for you. The photography section of the wan pages will also hold listings for stores which do photo restoration and scanning.
help yourself to your photos to the store and they will put them on a cd for you
