I have a Nikon D80 and I use it for a beyond measure amount of things. Indoor sports (Basketball, Volleyball, Class Games, etc.), outdoor sports, nature, portraits, animals, and so on. I be recommended the Promaster 7500DX. Is this the best choice or is there one almost exactly approaching it, but for a fraction of the price?

Consider the SB400 as well as the SB600. Depends on what you necessitate. If you use a Nikon flash, the TTL light metering will work approaching magic.
For the money I'd budge for the Nikon SB-600
