Can you suggest a digital SLR?

For someone who used to do a lot of photography contained by an *old* manual and wishes to get into digital. They'd be more interested contained by features like optical representation stabilization, zoom lenses, and depth of field preview than, right to be heard, red eye reduction. Price gamut is probably $400-1000, but I'm willing to thieve a hit to the wallet in the interests of model quality. Thanks!

Answers:    If you already enjoy some equipment of your old camera (namely lenses, external flashes, etc.), and you're delighted with it, you might want to consider staying next to the same brand, because within many cases you'll know how to use that equipment with the digital body.
I own a Canon Rebel XTi, and I'm fundamentally happy next to it. Both Canon and Nikon are good brands, and I've also hear good things roughly some Pentax and Sony models, even though I never tried them.
The Canon EOS Digital Rebel Xt is the standard. I've heard with the sole purpose praise for it from everybody who has one.
