How do I format the SD card on my digital camera.?

I just get a new digital camera for Christmas and will be buying an SD card. According to the instructions within my user's manual, it say that it's recommended that the SD card be formatted. To do that, I go into the setup menu..after to format, then choose the selection I want. I don't know what option I'd want. Does it really business??

Answers:    Sorry to disagree with you topcat, but at hand is a need to format the memory card surrounded by the camera. Sometimes you get away near it, but sometimes images disappear or other strange things begin unless the card is formatted by the camera that is going to use it. I other format in the camera. Even when I swap cards between cameras of duplicate brand I always format them within the camera before use.

You didn't mention which camera you own so I can't guess what the options might be below the format menu. All if mine (2 x fujis and 3 x Nikons) just ask me if I am sure I want to format, I select yes and away it go. The only other preference I have ever see is an option to create the evasion folders to store the images surrounded by, if so then this is something you want to do.

I hope this help,

No need to format, but you can do it on a PC purely like an extra drive.
