Answers:    you obligation to use rechargeables
If it uses AA batteries, run with rechargeable battery if you can, AA batteries die severely quickly within digital cameras. Also, Panasonic ships cheap batteries next to the camera, so hopefully you'll have better luck next to a different brand of batteries. =)
as jlukew said, walk with rechargables, but create sure they're digital camera specific, they have longer go..

I bought a charger+4AA battery pack for 20$ (energizer brand) at walmart.
Normally, the battery that come with a camera enjoy a minimal charge left on them at best. If they are not rechargeable, replace them near ones that are. It is a good belief, as batteries are so cheap very soon, to get a second set while you are at it. Then one set can be charged and organized to go while the other is contained by your camera. In my case, I take 3 back-up sets in my camera sack along with deeply of other stuff, My Pentax SLR and It's prime lens, charger, mini tripod, remote control, several filters, lens cleaner, etc.etc. even another lens (telephoto) and a Vivitar pro. flash. Metal-hydroxides own pretty well replaced Ni cads by in a minute and come in several sizes as far as amp/hours of use go. The 1800 mah are quite cheap immediately as are the 2000 mah ones. the 2500 mah are priced quite likely and it seems even the newer 2800 mah ones are coming down contained by price. Harbor Freight is selling 4 packs of Ni cads for around $3 and 2000 mah M/h's for $4. It's not be that long ago that an 1800 mah battery go for $7 each!.
Digital Camera's and AA battery don't really mix well due to the power requirements any go for Li-Ion rechargeable (most Lumix Cameras hold out this as an option and abundant as standard (some cant take AA merely the rechargeable).

if you HAVE to use AA batteries travel for the Lithium ones they hold more power and can recharge better.

the Lumix camera's which have the rechargeable battery offer freestyle life of 200 or so shots per camera as anti 15-20 for those with the AA battery it makes sense!
dance with energizer e2 lithium battery! they are awesome! they are the blue and silver batteries you can attain at about any retail store. they're somewhat pricy but they're worth it in the longrun
