Are lenses for cameras interchangeable?

I have an prehistoric 35 mm Minolta camera that has a bunch of Sigma lenses and I required to get a digital camera for them. Are the lenses interchangable for other cameras?

Answers:    When Minolta (now Sony) introduced their autofocus SLRs they changeover their lens mounting system.

So lenes to fit the older Minolta camera will not fit on the spanking new autofocus models.

However, lenses to fit the Minlta autofocus cameras should work on the current Sony DSLR.
Minolta was purchased by Sony. Before you buy a Sony DSLR, bring your lenses in near you and see if they fit and will give you polite meter readings.
