Can anyone recommend a devout digital camera (read on please)?
Answers: If you've used a 35mm camera in olden times, is it an interchangeable lens SLR camera or is it just a point and shoot?
Generally speaking, what i would recommend is getting an SLR and sticking near the same brand as your infirm camera if that's possible. Example: Nikon D40 can use AF-S film lenses and will even mount (but not meter) encyclopaedia focus Nikon lenses.
Otherwise, in point and shoots, what you want is the potential to close focus and light ably. While many point and shoots will focus closely, not adjectives of them do lighting as well, chiefly close up.
Thus, I would recommend the Canon G9 as a good way out, because it takes a Canon external flash and focuses unbelievably closely, plus has moral manual control over aperture and shutter speed.
However, if you impart us your budget, it would narrow down other option for you--particularly if you can't afford an SLR or the Canon G9.
I've got a NIkon D50. A great camera! You can shop around to bring back a great price on a beginner Nikon camera. Expresscamera.com have great prices.
