If you want to be a pro, you might hold to spend a little more and grasp a DSLR which can get pricey. but if it's your aspiration, stir for it. If you are on a budget, the Panasonic is a great camera. The newer model FZ18 is 18x optical zoom and has a bit more features but is roughly 400. But the Fz8 is a great value. Trust your instincts.
