Answers:    If you're willing to buy used, you can attain decent digital SLRs amazingly cheaply. Just be careful not to catch a used camera that's broken.

I have bought used SLRs sour eBay with nouns, but I pick good vendor with proven track library.

Typically, you can get elder SLRs (which will outperform any point and shoot digital) for as low as $250 to an average of around $350-450 for used middle range SLRs. Some come next to lenses, some don't.

Avoid the older Kodaks--they enjoy very user aloof interfaces and don't use modern memory formats.
