Answers:    Canon PowerShot XS 100 IS own one "Aquarium " picture taking mode. It,s not that you can take it out surrounded by the rain. To do that, you necessitate to buy a water protective cover, and this applies to ANY camera, be it show based or digital. By using the aquarium mode, the camera fine tunes your capture image so that it looks approaching it's taken underwater. Likewise if you use the "Snow" mode, the captured sign will turn out as if it's taken in a snowfall. Happy clicks and remember to bring back a protective cover if you intend to take it out surrounded by a rain.
I did not see anything that said lower than water mode but I basically skimmed. I would be leery about taking any camera specifically not specifically made for wet photo shoots out within the rain. Read the reviews on the contact you sent. Seems to be a user friendly camera.

Ah I just saw the underwater mode...no that method the photo will look like it be taken underwater.
the camera can go underwater, but requests a protective case. It's not hose down resistant - no no no

It's a mode that adjusts flimsy underwater because usually under hose down, it's really really blue, because red rays are filtered out, so the camera can put rear legs rays in to the camera. That's what I've read somewhere.
