Will adjectives the nikon digital slr lenses work beside adjectives current cameras?

I have a Nikon D50, and i want a tentative camera, so will all the lenses i enjoy for it work with the unusual Nikon cameras?

Answers:    Here's a partial cut and paste from another query I answered before.

All the lenses you currently enjoy will work and autofocus with the D80, D200, D300, D2 and D3 series.

Any Nikon S series lens from the D50 will autofocus next to the D40. But others will need to be manually focused.

Here's a enumerate of current lenses that autofocus with the D40 and D40x, next to more coming out soon from all lens maker.

All your DX lenses will work near every Nikon dSLR except the D3. The D3 is the first full frame sensor dSLR and there are 5 alien FX lenses that will be coming out at the same time that one does. The D40 won't help yourself to any of the older instruction book focus lenses. Other than those few issues, everything should work just fine. Check out www.kenrockwell.com for adjectives the specs on the new cameras and lenses.
Maybe. I would break it down this agency:

D70 / D70s. Yes, no problem.

D80, yes, no problem.

D200, yes, no problem
D2x, yes no problem
D300, yes no problem

D40 or D40x--will work and meter, might not autofocus unless the lens is an AF-S lens or a Sigma HSM lens.

D3--yes. The D3 should automatically sense if it's a full-frame lens or a DX lens and adjust accordingly. It's a pretty smart camera!
yes they are nikon fittings otherwise they would not fit your d50.
The spur-of-the-moment answer is yes, all of the current Nikon lenses you own will work.

But ... there's a recent change in a minute. The new D3 that be announced has a full sized sensor, not the smaller one that adjectives the other Nikon SLRs have. So immediately the rules have changed rather.

The first answer for that camera is also yes but with a difference. All of the Nikon DX lenses be designed for the smaller sensor that all the SLRs are using adjectives the way up to the D300 which be also announced recently. When it comes to the D3 however, while the DX lenses work in attendance too, they only work surrounded by a crop mode which will give you a 5 megapixel carving instead of a 12 megapixel one. For the D3 you would want to use regular lenses designed for 35mm, basically lenses that are not DX designated.

Now that said, Nikon SLRs adopt any lens that was made after 1977. That is to speak you can attach them to the camera and you will be able to filch pictures and get exposures that are accurate. However heaps of the early ones do not enjoy autofocus so you're into focussing manually of course. What is encouraging within this guarantee too is that these are all lenses designed for 35mm so they will also work without a flaw with the brand new D3.

So, any lens you currently have that works on your D50 will work immaculately the same means of access on all the newer Nikon SLRs. But, if you hold a DX lens and you wish to use it on the investigational D3, you'll have to settle for cropped 5 megapixel metaphors.

This change contained by their professional camera sensor now also open up a new grill, basically ... what kind of lenses should I buy now? The probability are even that when a replacement for the new D300 is announced it might enjoy the larger sensor too though I get the sentiment at the moment that Nikon might reserve that only for the professional dash.

So while you're welcome to buy any camera they give at the moment and while you are able to verbs to use all your lenses as in the past, if you later establish to purchase a new lens you're going to own to ask yourself whether you will ever buy a professional body later on. If the answer is yes, the subsequent lens should not be a DX, it should instead be a regular Nikon lens. If the answer is no, then you'll know how to use the lenses you have forever as you verbs to upgrade your SLR every so often.

I hope that help.
