How come the pictures from my 5 MP digital camera look better on my comp than those of my 8 MP digital camera?
Answers: Well, we could give a better answer knowing the exact Canon model. The Sony DSC-T20 have about the smallest (and most common) sensor out at hand. The smaller sensors will not have as virtuous an image as the larger sensors, almost regardless of the pixel count.
Most elder Canon's had the larger sensor, which is almost twice as big as the one in your Sony.

one point - it is a canon.
crop the 8mp to a 5mp.
or change your setting from an 8 to a 5 and see if nearby is a difference.
if not, it is the camera.
Camera manufacturer are killing themselves at present to pack ever more pixels surrounded by the same size space. The smaller they get hold of, the less fluffy each one can detain as the camera takes the shot. This results contained by 'noisier' or 'grainier' looking images.
Higher part cameras such as SLRs have physically larger sensors allowing respectively pixel to capture more wispy. This is why they can have difficult megapixels but yet a better talent.
Disappointing huh?
~~~teef~~~
People have to take in that many megapixels alone do not generate the quality of the figurine.
