Canon Powershot?
Answers: If you don't mind a little bulky camera I would recommend you the Canon Powershot S5 IS since you are also interested contained by artistic photos beyond photos at gatherings & unattached events.
S3 IS ($239) and the upgraded version within series S5 IS ($320) are among the best point and shoot cameras with particularly good almanac settings for serious photography too.. They are not as sleak as the other cameras but aren't as bulky as the DSLRs too.
Benefits i see is - it has illustrious zoom (12x optical zoom) enabling you to seizure pictures from farther distances, excellent high level video and sound recording- which make it perfect for gathering, adjustable shutter speeds and macro focus capabilities enable you to take some artistic photos at close length. Picture quality is mostly very fitting on autofocus too. Low light is supportable.

You need a point and shoot camera next to support for manual focus along next to auto focus. Specifically look for a high megapixel camera 7-8 MP, optical zoom. As you mentioned lens and Image stabilization are also critical. If you don't want to deal next to the jargon - on reviewgist.com you can lately rank them by depiction, optics and interface and take a telephone.

Any of the mid-price Canon Powershots are great. I own an Elph and the pictures are so good that I sold my other three cameras (SLR's).
