WIll the Guitar Hero 3 PS2 controllers work on Guitar Hero 1 & 2?

I don't want to have to buy an extra controller to play multiplayer on GH 1 & 2. Right immediately I'm using just a regular PS2 controller as the second controller to do Cooperative stuff, but I want to be capable of have 2 guitars and not enjoy to buy extras.
