Sounds like your laser surrounded by the DVD drive is worn out. It's a fairly adjectives problem with PS2's.

That's your laser on the disc reader. That happened beside mine. Some games are on a CD rom and others are on DVD rom. Mine would singular play one and not the other. I can't remember which way round it be though!
Try moving the ps2 from vertical to horizontal position (or vice versa depending where you usually own it). This might provide a temporary solution, but otherwise it sounds approaching its either replacing the laser or basically buying a new ps2.
