Xbox 360 - red ring of demise... while system is past its sell-by date?

My xbox 360 elite which i only just purchased (a little over a week ago) gave me the red rings of passing. but it was sour when this was arranged. I turned the tv on to make sure.... lately lights were lit up, no other noise...

This is probably because the system is overheated if the 3 red lights still show when you widen the console then.
you own to ship the console to microsoft because the 3 lights are unfixable at the moment.
