How do I catch my Xbox Live nouns for the Xbox 360 to work?

I have a 2wire 2701 HGV-W gateway and want to know if I can use a ordinary router to connect to Xbox live.

I would connect the router to my Xbox 360 by the usb connection at the put money on of the Xbox 360. Would it automaticly pick up the signal from my gateway?

And if the above isn't possible would I just be capable of stick a ethernet cable from the gateway to the Xbox 360?

Answers:    ethernet is the way to move about, the 360 wireless adapter is the only piece of equipment at this time that is to say able to use the USB port for internet nouns
we have ours hooked up through router.If you want to stop by best buy and purchse the 100 adapter you can procure it and it will pick up on the router anywhere in house.
yes you can hook it up directly also.
