Answers:    Try disconnecting the HDMI cable, and leaving the component cable in, near the TV set to the component input they're plugged into, then power down the ps3. Once it shuts down, turn sour the power switch in the rear legs and leave it past its sell-by date for 5 seconds. Turn the TV on, if it isn't already.
Then power up the ps3. It should autodetect the superlative possible display available, either 720p or 1080i. If you don't see the XMB surrounded by a few seconds, in that may be a hardware problem.

Doing that forces the ps3 to try using the component output, which, with an HDMI plug also connected, it won't typically do unless you specifically tell it to. It will commonly shoot for the best possible display which is through HDMI.

If you can get video through component cable, but not HDMI, you may have an impulsive HDTV with no HDCP decryption. PS3 encrypts adjectives output with HDCP, and there's no approach around that, but 1080p, HDMI-equipped HDTV's with no HDCP decrypter are dying out. Also I don't think you would catch normal nouns, unless you were running nouns to a source other than your TV.

Other than that, no offense but your sound out you had the TV set on component 1 next to both HDMI and component connected... this would surely produce a blank screen near an autoconfiguring ps3 because it would pick HDMI, and the Tv's set to component. Unless it was merely confusion in the course you typed it.

At any rate, there's no reason to own both component and HDMI plugged in at once, it confuses the situation. If your ps3 will work from a 5-seconds-off boot beside just a component cable hooked up, but not near just HDMI, the most possible think is a non-HDCP-compliant HDTV.
You will hold to switch the input on your tv to HDMI 1 or 2 depending on where you plugged the HDMI cable into.
