The premium is a moral choice if he is a mild gamer, because it only have the 20GB hard drive. But if he like to play a lot later i would go next to the elite, because it have 120GB hard drive(a lot of memory) and it also have a hdmi port in the hindmost for hd TVs. Core system is obsolete. The Xbox 360 premium and the Xbox Elite the difference is merely the harddrive and how much storage it has. The 360 premium is the standard in a minute it has a 60gb concrete drive I believe which is MORE than enough for the average gamer. The Elite have a 120gb hard-drive. Go with the premium its more than satisfactory and it works just matching. Jump on Ebay you can find a new one from reputable seller for about $50-100 smaller amount than in stores.
If I be you I'd get your BF the Elite system. Core is the Cheapest but also the most useless. Premium is the optimum choice but it have a amazingly high fiasco rate.(search red lights of death). The elite is the best one out in attendance.

economically the best ones out right now r the premium and the special or if he is interested in radiance 3 there is a special edition aura 3 xbox 360 which comes out on the 25 i believe and it is pretty cool. he might like it if he is a nimbus fan.
If he have an HDTV, you'll want the Elite. If you have the money to obtain it, I would get the Elite anyway surrounded by case he get an HDTV later.
I suggest getting your b/f the just this minute upgraded premuim Xbox 360 w/incl 20 gb hard drive for $350. The difference between the antediluvian and the new is the included HDMI port. Its clearly labeled on the box. Do not bring back the core system as its a waste of $$$. Everything he wants (except a game) is included in the box (system, power plug, component/av cable, ethernet cable and headset). MS also extended the standard warranty from 1 year to 3 years to DO NOT buy the extended 2 year warranty.
