I dont know how 2 connect my wii 2 the internet. i hold a working wifi connector that i use for my ds.?

when i tried doing it it said something about a wireless lan? or something similar to that when it was questioning for a connection. my wifi connector is plugged into my laptop which is on and the green muted is flashing like its supposed 2 be doing similar to when i play wifi on my ds.. so whats the problem?
