When upgrading my laptop for gaming.....?

Heres my specs:

-2.5 GB RAM
-AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800 2GHz
- GeForce 6100 graphic card (I know, it's horrifying. This is why I'm upgrading)
- stock motherboard

To upgrade my pc for gaming, do i inevitability to upgrade my motherboard too, or just my video card?
