However, I think that you should only stick with the 40GB PS3.
Before you get the 40GB PS3, you could have get the 80GB PS3, but now you want to purely trade in the 40GB for a 120GB or 160GB?
The newer PS3 should be towards the back compatibile with PS1 and PS2 games, and it should hold the flash card slots just approaching the 60GB and 80GB PS3's, so there really isn't to much that you will be missing out on except for the towards the back compatibility with PS2 games because the 40GB can't play them.
You can other just upgrade the complicated drive if you want more storage space.
However, if you really want the backward compatibility beside PS2 games and the flash card slots with the PS3, after go ahead and provide the 40GB or trade it. You should be able to provide the used 40GB PS3 pretty easily if you flog it on Ebay because there are profoundly of people that still can't afford PS3's.
