Does a Standard Xbox controller work on a Xbox 360?

Answers: In spite of the fact that they are both USB and adjectives sense dictates that USB should be able to work within either/or, the original will not work beside 360.
There are no adapters available.
I believe the reason is that the artistic Xbox controller is analogue and the Xbox360 controller is digital.
