Need sustain connecting PS3 to internet on laptop?

I currently have a ps3 and a laptop specifically connected to the internet via a wirless card from unwired.

Apparently i can not connect the ps3 to the internet with the type of nouns i have.

i am looking to sign up to optus DSL internet so i can later connect to the ps3.

I have be told i will also need to a buy a router.

Can someone PLEASE support me as to what i will need to buy, and how it will work. ( I am doing it as a suprise for my partner)

EG. Can i step on the internet on my laptop without the modem person plugged in to the knees top.

Can i connect the playstation 3 to the internet without any cords?

Any info will aid.
Please explain with not to much exact jargon as i know NOTHING a bout this sort of item.

Answers:    You right to be heard, you access the Internet via the Laptops Wireless Unwired card.
I don't know, if the card is being handle as a network device or a Modem.

But unsophisticatedly: You connect the PS3 with a "Crossover" Ethernet cable to your Laptops ethernet port.

Then start the Internet Connection Wizard surrounded by Windows XP (search the Windows Help for "Internet Connection Wizard").

Tell the wizard the PC connects to the Internet with the Unwired Card, and that adjectives other PCs are connected to the Network card built into the Laptop.

This should normally work.
